Do You Need Vitamins On A Low Carb Diet?

Gepost in: Great Nutrition Tips — @ 10:10 am

Should I Take Vitamins With My Low Carb Diet?

Most low carb diets advocate that users reduce consumption of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. While this may lead to considerable weight-loss, it will most definitely
lead to a reduction in necessary stores of vitamins, minerals, and
essential nutrients.

This is why it is important for low carb dieters to augment meals
with supplements.

The following is a partial list of some of the essential nutrients
you may be lacking if you are on a low carb diet:

1. Vitamin C.

Vitamin C is found in citrus fruits, berries, fruit juice, fresh
vegetables, potatoes, and tomatoes. A healthy intake of Vitamin C
facilitates the absorption of iron, keeps blood vessels healthy,
and can arguably prevent cancer. Here’s a little known fact: a red pepper has more vitamin C than an orange!

2. Vitamin E.

Vitamin E is found in green leafy vegetables, vegetable oils,
certain cereals, nuts, and wheat germ. Vitamin E
has been associated with good skin health and the prevention
of cancer and heart disease.

3. Fiber.

Fiber is found in vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts, and whole grains. Fiber is associated with good colon health
and has been shown to reduce the chance of colon cancer. A fiber
intake of 20-35 grams per day has been shown to prevent and
alleviate constipation–and also break dietary “stalls” in weight
loss.

As a low carb dieter, you will need to find supplements that take
the place of these essential nutrients if you want to lose weight and maintain good health.

Some low carb diets suggest that you take up to 30 different
types of supplements daily. However, it may be easier to assess your diet, find out what you are lacking, and then find a multi-vitamin that suits your nutritional deficiencies.

You will also want to find a fiber supplement to prevent constipation and maintain good colon health.

If you are unsure exactly which nutrients you are lacking in your low carb diet, you should check your diet plan for suggestions or consult a physician.

Is Ephedra a Miracle Cure?

Gepost in: Great Nutrition Tips — @ 10:34 am

Americans are buzzing about the FDA’s recent decision to reverse the ban on ephedra and ephedrine supplements in the United States. Known as the “world’s oldest medicine,” ephedra has been used for thousands of years for its variety of healing properties. While ephedra is not a cure-all, it is successfully used in treating hundreds of afflictions, including some that may surprise you.

When the average person hears the word “ephedra” they generally think of two things: “weight loss” and “banned.” The millions of people who have safely used ephedra to burn fat and lose weight were devastated when the U.S. ephedra ban was imposed in early 2004. The FDA was claiming a high death rate attributed to use (or misuse) of ephedra and ephedrine (the main “active” ingredient in the ephedra plant). However, further research showed that only five of these deaths could be attributed to ephedra use, so the ban was lifted. To put the number of adverse events into perspective, consider that over 12 million people reportedly used ephedra during 1999.

Ephedra has thermogenic qualities, which means it can be used to speed up the body’s metabolism. This natural increase in metabolism is what results in virtually effortless weight loss and has earned ephedra the nickname “miracle fat burner.” Unlike other weight loss products on the market, ephedra helps the body retain lean muscle mass. The thermogenic qualities of ephedra also improve the body’s ability to eliminate toxins (through urine and sweat), which can reduce unnecessary water retention.

What you may not know is that the ephedra plant has been used to treat a number of respiratory and circulatory conditions, including asthma, allergies (such as hay fever) and the common cold. Ephedrine, or the synthetic equivalent called pseudoephedrine, can be found in many over-the-counter cold and allergy medications, including Sudafed. Ephedra is a vasodilator, which means it relaxes (or dilates) blood vessels, which allows blood to flow more easily, and allows nasal passages to open wider. In Chinese medicine, ephedra has been used for thousands of years to increase blood flow and improve circulation.

Athletes have used ephedra for centuries, since it helps build muscle and burn fat. Many people report increased energy and stamina while using ephedra, which increases overall athletic performance.

Ephedra is generally considered safe when adhering to the recommended doses. Since ephedra is a very powerful and effective supplement, you should check with your physician before using ephedra if you have any of the following conditions: anxiety, high blood pressure, glaucoma or heart disease. Do not take ephedra if you are pregnant or lactating. It’s recommended to check with your physician before beginning any weight loss program.

Since the ban was lifted so recently, only one company currently offers ephedra supplements online, and they may be found at http://www.BetaFuelDirect.com.

Eight Strategies to Become a Winner

Gepost in: Self Improvement Parlor — @ 6:08 pm

Are You a Winner? What does it take to be a winner? Winning is really nothing more than an attitude. How is it that, although you are doing the exact same things as the next guy, the end results are not the same?

Let’s examine what ingredients make up a winning attitude. Whether you need to win a crucial athletic feat, shed a destructive habit, or accomplish financial security, you won’t miss if the following elements are utilized:

1. One day at a time

Whatever your goal is, do not get overwhelmed with the enormity of the task. Decide right at the outset to set attainable short-term goals as you go along. What can you accomplish today towards your long-term vision? Every day that brings results is an affirmation that you will be able to do the same tomorrow, and so on.

2. Stick-to-it-iveness

Keep on keeping on. Do not allow yourself to get discouraged and give up. You never know how close you are to the breakthrough. Your next move; the next day may be the one that will transform your destiny.

3. The right tools

Do you have the right tools for the job? If you want to win Olympic gold, do you have all the athletic abilities and training necessary? Do you want to become a network marketing success? Then you need to do your due diligence in studying the best marketing strategies, getting niche products, and consistently applying what you’ve learned. “Get rich quick” schemes come about only with hard work and consistent strategic effort!

4. Look forward; not back

The past is good only for learning what not to do, or applying the techniques developed to bring about success. It is of paramount importance, however, not to dwell on past failures and mistakes. The moment is Now. Go forward toward your dream.

5. Forgiveness

What does forgiveness have to do with winning? Get rid of all the bad feelings you have against those who have hurt you – whether deliberately or not. Past hurts will hold you back. Let go; move on and prove to yourself that you Can do it. Remember, though, you are proving Yourself; you’re doing it for You. Doing something in anger, resentment or retaliation of any kind will block your creative juices from flowing and rob you of the joyful satisfaction that accompanies success.

6. Gratitude

Develop a habit of thankfulness. Show gratitude to those who help you along the way. Take a few moments every now and then to reflect on all the good things you have, i.e. family, friends, education, affirming individuals, talents, etc. The bible states: “whatsoever things are true, .. honest, pure, lovely, and of good report… think on these things.” (Phil. 4:8)

7. Inspiration

Have a daily quiet time with God. The Lord says that if we delight ourselves in Him, He will give us the desires of our heart (psalm 37:4). The more you are attuned to Him, the more you will hear His voice and His leading in your everyday life. Whenever you get to a point where you think you cannot do it or go any further, remember and recite out loud this encouraging verse: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Phil. 4:13).

8. Expectancy

Once you have the vision as to which path to follow to success; then expect great results! Thank Him for your success – yes, before you can even see it. “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Heb. 11:1). As well, the Bible tells us to make all our requests known to God. If He gave you the vision, the talent and the drive to follow your dream, then He will see you through! Write down your vision, paste it on the wall in front of you, and speak it out loud every chance you get. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God! (Rom. 10:17)

Now, go on, Just Do It! Prosper and Be in Health, even as your soul prospers. Yes, that’s also in the Bible. It’s God’s Will that you prosper in every way. (John 3:2).

Reservations Can Make Your Life Easier

Gepost in: Lifestyle Center, Self Improvement Parlor — @ 12:54 am

When was the last time that you made this great plan to have a wonderful dinner with your girlfriend or boyfriend or maybe you went on a first date. And you are so excited about it that you can hardly wait. You even went online to look at the Menu and have planed out to the smallest details of what you are going to order, right after you have visited the Acceletrim blog to read more information and then go to the website to order your pills for the month.

You are off to dinner and you look better than ever, your dress or shirt is perfectly ironed and you can’t smell any better. The car has been washed too. So you arrive at that famous restaurant and it suddenly hits you, when you see that huge line of people also waiting to get in. Reservations. The one thing you forgot to do. You went to a lot of trouble to get the perfect evening but you forgot the most important thing.

Reservations are a way of life now days. They are need it for everything that you plan outdoors, for simple things such as a haircut, and complicate things like going to the doctor. Make sure that you have the phone number of all the places that you frequent, so that you are not caught in this scenario.

How to Keep Your Auto Insurance Premiums Low

As automobile insurance costs keep increasing, thrifty auto owners are looking for deals on auto insurance. There are several assorted types of deductions available and if you can save a little cash, then why not? Below is a list of general discounts that may be available to you. Check with your insurance firm to see if you’re entitled.

Individual-Associated Price Reductions

Person-related deductions are ones that depend on the driver’s own personal situation, status and driving history.

  • Taking a Traffic School Class If by any chance you have been recently ticketed, you may attend traffic school either online or through a traditional setting to have your ticket expunged from your driving record. Indirectly, this will have an effect of lowering your monthly insurance rates
  • Good Student deductions. Insurance agents know that students with higher GPAs have a lower risk of being involved in an accident. Therefore, they will usually offer deductions on your insurance.
  • discounts for Your Profession. There are many professions that can make you eligible for auto insurance deductions. Nurses, engineers, government employees, to name a few, all may be eligible to receive discounts on their auto insurance.
  • Senior Citizen Discount. If youre an older driver, aged 55 or over and have completed a Defensive Driving course being offered by the DMV in your state, then you may qualify for a discount.
  • Loyalty Programs. Staying with the same insurance company for several years and maintaining a clean driving record will give you a positive history with them. Many times, the insurance firm will reward you with your loyalty with low automobile insurance rates.
  • Keep Up a Good Driving Record. Your unspoiled driving history will also let you get car insurance discounts. Some insurance firms provide deductions for drivers and insurance policy holders who have not been in accidents or have not received any traffic violations for a certain period of time.
  • Multi-line auto insurance Discount. If you have more than one type of insurance policy with the same insurance underwriter, many times you’ll also be able to get cheaper rates from them.
  • Car Based Insurance Discounts

The type of car you drive can be a huge factor in determining the amount you pay each year for automobile insurance. There are also extra features that you can add to your car to make it less expensive to insure.

    1. Air Bags. They present increased safety to you and your car and insurance underwriters love these.
    2. Anti-Lock Brakes System (ABS). Many cars on the road today are equipped with ABS. Many automobile insurance agents offer deductions if your car is fit with these types of brakes and many states even require the insurer to do so.
    3. Anti-Theft Devices. Installation of anti-theft devices like car alarms is a way to get cheaper auto insurance. There may be an added bonus if the alarm that you installed automatically turns itself on when you turn the car’s engine off.

Success Through The Power Of Daily Action

Gepost in: Self Improvement Parlor — @ 11:16 am

Daily actions to achieve your goals means daily progress and daily excitement as you start to feel your dreams are actually coming true.

As you take action daily, you cannot fail to realize that you are moving steadily towards your goal and this can only fill you with growing enthusiasm and the belief that, at long last, you will achieve your goal whatever it is.

If you don’t take daily action, you leave a vacuum for doubts to creep in. They will puncture the tyres of your band wagon before you have realised it.

You also leave an empty space in your life which will soon be filled by other priorities.

Five years ago, I nearly finished a book on how to make Religious Education fun. I made the mistake of not working on it daily and before I realized it, other activities like attempts at network marketing had taken over and I lost the excitement of completing a great project based on years of teaching Religious Education in London comprehensive schools.

I had wasted a life time’s effort and knowledge.

However, recently I restarted this project on a daily basis and am completing what I had begun five years ago. I am working daily on the book which has now turned into a series of books.

The first one, called “Hit The Target”, has already been completed. The second one is nearly completed. The excitement and enthusiasm are back.

I also know now that if I again start leaving gaps in my daily activity on the book, I will lose momentum and could even end up not finishing the project again.

Once you feel the momentum of progress, don’t stop and relax. Keep going and strike, in the time honoured phrase, while the iron is hot. Momentum is precious. Daily activity will maintain it. Leaving gaps in your daily activity will not.

To make sure that I keep up daily activity, I make writing the book or series of books a major priority which I begin as early as possible in the day.

Daily activity keeps your project, whatever it is, clearly in your mind. Your brain is buzzing with ideas. If you start leaving gaps, the ideas and the images can soon become vague little clouds on the far horizon.

The same thing happens with physical activity or learning any skill involving physical movement. Daily practice or exercise will allow you to see and feel the progress you are making. Start leaving gaps and you will start forgetting to practise or exercise.

I teach a great modern martial art called Choikwangdo to my students twice a week. I praise them for turning up twice a week in all kinds of weather but I also urge them to practise daily at home as well.

For one thing they have to learn many forms or patterns of movement. If they don’t practise daily they will start forgetting these forms and fail to perform them with power and conviction. They will relive the nightmare of the actor who has failed to practise his lines on a daily basis.

Those who practise daily stand out from the rest like an eagle among chickens. They also enjoy what they are doing far more and they start to feel the excitement of turning into a powerful and awesome blackbelt.

I have achieved a little skill with the nunchaku after practising daily for one or two demonstrations but once I dropped the daily practice, my skill and enthusiasm diminished rapidly.

Obviously, you can’t do everything every day. But try to make the activities that are important to you daily ones. Failing that, perform them every other day or even weekly or, as a last resort, monthly.

If you do something on a consistent basis even if it is not daily, you can still make visible progress.

But if you want to take the route of powerful, accelerated and exciting progress, practise daily! You may have the occasional lapse of focus and leave gaps at times. If you do, read this article again and get back on track! Good luck!

    Learning the Basics of RSS

Gepost in: Living With The Web — @ 2:21 am

What is RSS? You probably have seen this three-letter acronym in the course of your internet surfing. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary; syndicating means republishing an article that comes from another source such as a website.

An RSS is a means of publicizing updates about websites. It may or may not include a summary and photos of the latest posting. But those that provide summaries (thus Rich Site Summary) allow users to skim through the article so that they could decide later on if they want to access the website source. The RSS feed usually contains the title of the update originating from the website. It is also usually the link to the website source.

What are the benefits of RSS? RSS gives benefits to both readers (users) and web publishers. 1. It gives you the latest updates. Whether it is about the weather, new music, software upgrade, local news, or a new posting from a rarely-updates site learn about the latest as soon as it comes out.

    2. It saves on surfing time. Since an RSS feed provides a summary of the related article, it saves the user’s time by helping s/he decide on which items to prioritize when reading or browsing the net.

    3. It gives the power of subscription to the user. Users are given a free-hand on which websites to subscribe in their RSS aggregators which they can change at any time they decide differently.

    4. It lessens the clutter in your inbox. Although your email address will be required to enjoy the services of online RSS aggregators, RSS does not use your email address to send the updates.

    5. It is spam free. Unlike email subscriptions, RSS does not make use of your email address to send updates thus your privacy is kept safe from spam mails.

    6. Unsubscribing is hassle-free. Unlike email subscriptions where the user is asked questions on why s/he is unsubscribing and then the user would be asked to confirm unsubscribing, all you have to do is to delete the RSS feed from your aggregator.

    7. It can be used as an advertising or marketing tool. Users who subscribe or syndicate product websites receive the latest news on products and services without the website sending spam mail. This is advantageous to both the web user and the website owner since advertising becomes targeted; those who are actually interested in their products are kept posted.

What are the drawbacks of RSS? The disadvantages of RSS use are brought about by its being a new technology and some user-preference concerns. 1. Some users prefer receiving email updates over an RSS feed.

    2. Graphics and photos do not appear in all RSS feeds. For conciseness and ease of publication, RSS feeds do not display the photos from the original site in announcing the update except for some web-based aggregators

    3. The identity of the source website can be confusing. Since RSS feeds do not display the actual URL or name of the website, it can sometimes get confusing on what feed a user is actually reading.

    4. Publishers cannot determine how many users are subscribed to their feed and the frequency of their visits. Moreover, they would not know the reasons why users unsubscribe which could be important in improving their advertising.

    5. RSS feeds create higher traffic and demands on the server. Most readers still prefer the whole update over a brief summary of the entry, thus they still access the site.

    6. Since it is a new technology, many sites still do not support RSS.

How do I start using RSS? There are two things needed: an RSS feed and an RSS aggregator or reader. The RSS feed comes from an RSS-supported website. There are also websites that provide a list of RSS feeds of different websites. An RSS aggregator is used to read the RSS feed from the source website. It scans and collects data on latest RSS feeds from the worldwide web.

Writing Effective ALT Text For Images

Gepost in: Living With The Web — @ 8:57 pm

Anyone who knows anything about web accessibility knows that images need alternative, or ALT, text assigned to them. This is because screen readers can’t understand images, but rather read aloud the alternative text assigned to them. In Internet Explorer we can see this ALT text, simply by mousing over the image and looking at the yellow tooltip that appears. Other browsers (correctly) don’t do this. The HTML for inserting ALT text is:

But surely there can’t be a skill to writing ALT text for images? You just pop a description in there and you’re good to go, right? Well, kind of. Sure, it’s not rocket science, but there are a few guidelines you need to follow…

Spacer images and missing ALT text

Spacer images should always be assigned null ALT text, or alt=”" . This way most screen readers will completely ignore the image and won’t even announce its presence. Spacer images are invisible images that pretty most websites use. The purpose of them is, as the name suggests, to create space on the page. Sometimes it’s not possible to create the visual display you need, so you can stick an image in (specifying its height and width) and voli, you have the extra space you need.

Not everyone uses this null ALT text for spacer images. Some websites stick in alt=”spacer image”. Imagine how annoying this can be for a screen reader user, especially when you have ten of them in a row. A screen reader would say, “Image, spacer image” ten times in a row (screen readers usually say the word, “Image”, before reading out its ALT text) – now that isn’t helpful!

Other web developers simply leave out the ALT attribute for spacer images (and perhaps other images). In this case, most screen readers will read out the filename, which could be ‘newsite/images/onepixelspacer.gif’. A screen reader would announce this image as “Image, newsite slash images slash one pixel spacer dot gif”. Imagine what this would sound like if there were ten of these in a row!

    Bullets and icons

Bullets and icons should be treated in much the same way as spacer images, so should be assigned null alternative text, or alt=”". Think about a list of items with a fancy bullet proceeding each item. If the ALT text, ‘Bullet’ is assigned to each image then, “Image, bullet” will be read aloud by screen readers before each list item, making it take that bit longer to work through the list.

Icons, usually used to complement links, should also be assigned alt=”". Many websites, which place the icon next to the link text, use the link text as the ALT text of the icon. Screen readers would first announce this ALT text, and then the link text, so would then say the link twice, which obviously isn’t necessary.

(Ideally, bullets and icons should be called up as background images through the CSS document – this would remove them from the HTML document completely and therefore remove the need for any ALT description.)

    Decorative images

Decorative images too should be assigned null alternative text, or alt=”". If an image is pure eye candy then there’s no need for a screen reader user to even know it’s there and being informed of its presence simply adds to the noise pollution.

Conversely, you could argue that the images on your site create a brand identity and by hiding them from screen reader users you’re denying this group of users the same experience. Accessibility experts tend to favour the former argument, but there certainly is a valid case for the latter too.

Navigation & text embedded within images

Navigation menus that require fancy text have no choice but to embed the text within an image. In this situation, the ALT text shouldn’t be used to expand on the image. Under no circumstances should the ALT text say, ‘Read all about our fantastic services, designed to help you in everything you do’. If the menu item says, ‘Services’ then the ALT text should also say ‘Services’. ALT text should always describe the content of the image and should repeat the text word-for-word. If you want to expand on the navigation, such as in this example, you can use the title attribute.

The same applies for any other text embedded within an image. The ALT text should simply repeat, word-for-word, the text contained within that image.

(Unless the font being used is especially unique it’s often unnecessary to embed text within images – advanced navigation and background effects can now be achieved with CSS.)

    Company logo

Websites tend to vary in how they apply ALT text to logos. Some say, ‘Company name’, others ‘Company name logo’, and other describe the function of the image (usually a link back to the homepage), ‘Back to home’. Remember, ALT text should always describe the content of the image so the first example, alt=”Company name”, is probably the best. If the logo is a link back to the homepage then this can be effectively communicated through the title tag.

    Conclusion

Writing effective ALT text isn’t too difficult. If it’s a decorative image then null alternative text, or alt=”" should usually be used – never, ever omit the ALT attribute. If the image contains text then the ALT text should simply repeat this text, word-for-word. Remember, ALT text should describe the content of the image and nothing more.

Do also be sure also to keep ALT text as short and succinct as possible. Listening to a web page with a screen reader takes a lot longer than traditional methods, so don’t make the surfing experience painful for screen reader users with bloated and unnecessary ALT text.

Maximizing ROI via Web Site Traffic Analysis

Gepost in: Living With The Web — @ 10:16 am

We are clearly well past the innocent “golden age” of the Internet – Darwinian economics have become the order of the day today. Any company worth their salt must maintain a web site as an information resource and/or to generate incremental ecommerce revenue. Qualified traffic is the name of the game, as it’s the oxygen that keeps a good ecommerce web site thriving. Consequently, it’s very important to have an understanding of your web site traffic or visitor activity; i.e. baseline information that includes the number of visitors during specific time periods, originating location (domain), where the visitors went on a site and how long they stayed on specific sections or pages of a web site. The de facto industry standard traffic analysis tool application is Web Trends, manufactured/supported by netiQ, Inc., which we will focus on in this article.

    Fundamentals and Jargon Watch

All traffic analysis tools rely primarily upon information that is extracted from log files; i.e. files that are maintained on your server which show where a visitor came from, what keyword(s) they used to find your site (if applicable), what Operating System and Browser versions they are using, etc. There are literally hundreds of excellent log file analysis tools that can be located via CNet’s Download.com or TuCows – both sites are excellent resources for software and information.

It’s critical in today’s bottom line business environment to have the ability to analyze web traffic (visitors) and patterns and then integrate this knowledge with your overall business processes – what do you pay for traffic, is it converting (people are buying your goods and services), how long are people staying on specific sections or pages of your web site, what marketing expenditures are working and which aren’t!

You know your entering the reality distortion field (we marketing types need to justify our fees & services) and need to raise your jargon filters to stun level when you here and/or see these keywords; i.e. clickstream traffic (fancy way of saying traffic or visitors delivered via mouse clicks to your web site), ebusiness solutions (meaning – selling your products/services via an ecommerce site) or my all-time personal favorite, “ebusiness intelligence” (what’s ebusiness and what determines if it’s “intelligent”).

    Traffic Counter Applications

First and foremost, do you really need a comprehensive product like Web Trends (more on the different applications later) or can you get by with a click (traffic) counter application like the Hit Box? The latter company provides a free plain vanilla traffic counter which can be easily set up in minutes via your web site. Hit Box is a great product and used by hundreds of thousands of web sites, so it may be sufficient for your business, if you just want very basic info (“Page Views and Daily Unique Visitors) and don’t mind advertising for another company via your web site.

But, there are some downsides to utilizing Hit Box, you must install their “button” on your Index (home) page and it only provides you with basic traffic information (how much per day with a forecast based on these numbers). You can upgrade to their HitBox Professional which is very similar to Web Trends basic application (“Web Trends Log Analyzer”) – but, you have to pay for this service on a traffic basis which can get expensive, depending on your overall traffic

    Web Trends Applications and Interface

Web Trends (the company) was acquired by netiQ, Inc. the parent company about 18 months ago due to their strong market leadership position with web traffic analysis software. Like many good web-focused software companies, netiQ enables you to download all of their apps for a 30 day trial period. Estimates range from 60-80% market share for one of their three primary products; i.e. “Web Trends Log Analyzer,” their baseline $500. USD application which is a good solution for most web sites that have a single domain or under 25 in total; “Web Trends Analysis Suite” (SRP $2.5K USD), which incorporates the functionality of the Log Analyzer product and adds more features for managing bandwidth usage (interior and external), monitoring and alerting an IT Manager or Department for server related problems and handles up to 100 domains (sites); the “Web Trends Intelligence Suite” is their top of the line product (pricing varies depending on bundled services) geared for enterprise customers, it includes integration and training services for integrating the application with Online Analytics Processing Tools (“OLAP” yes another ebiz acronym) or other types of reporting tools.

We’ve been using and recommending Web Trends to clients for years primarily because of its interface and functionality. It’s a browser-enabled app, meaning anyone with a browser (IE or Netscape) can view reports and data. The reports are presented in a straightforward manner that includes basic pie chart or bar types of graphics – you can easily tell at a glance what your visitor traffic was for a given period, where they came from, what pages they visited and how long they stayed on specific pages. You don’t need to be a technologist or a marketing geek to use this application – see below for practical tips.

    Practical Usage

So what do you want to measure and what type of custom reports do you want to run once you get the software installed? You will want to measure how much traffic (visitors) is coming to your web site per day, week, month, where they are coming from (country of origin), and where visitors going on your web site; i.e. home page, internal pages and of these what specific pages; i.e. About Us Products, Services your Shopping Cart, etc. Pay careful attention to usage times, how long people are staying on specific pages; too long may indicate they can’t figure out your content, or your content is so good its meaningful and educational. For example, if your “White Paper Resource” section is the most frequently visited and the visitor sessions (time elements) are long (2-4 minutes) then this means your content is being well received. But, if everyone is just reading your White Papers but not filling out your response forms then you may need to alter some aspects of your business processes and how you communicate them via your web site.

Web Trends compliments ongoing advertising campaigns and processes – it lets you capture critical ROI (“Return on Investment”) information by giving you an accurate picture of traffic and usage patterns that should correlate with what your ad agency or marketing partner is telling you or confirming with their own reports. For example: If your deploying an opt-in e-mail campaign and bringing people to a specific “landing page” (specific page where people are directed to that may include an “offer”) you need to carefully monitor if people are clicking through to the page and how long they are staying and/or going to your shopping cart to purchase a product or a registration fulfillment page. If the session times (how long they stay on a page) are short and people aren’t filling out a form or converting (purchasing or taking a specific action) then you clearly have some work to do on your web site content and or business processes.
