No matter what industry you are in, there a a lot of different factors that can affect your salary. Consider the medical billing services industry. Salary ranges depend on things such as how much experience you have, whether or not you are certified, where in the country you are working, and the type of organization where you work.

The median salary per year is $31,416, with the top 25 percent of billing specialists making more than $34,046 and the bottom 25 percent of billing specialists making less than $28,044.

Completing insurance paperwork is time-consuming and sometimes confusing. Each diagnosis and procedure must be assigned a proper code for the insurance company to pay the claim. An assistant in a doctor’s office may not have the proper training to complete this paperwork. The doctor does not receive any of this training in medical school. Outsourcing this work allows staff to focus on patients, scheduling and managing files. In addition, a person only working on claims does not have these distractions. They become familiar with the insurance company’s policies and procedures. This speeds up the payment to the doctor and increases cash flow to the practice.

Medical billing is so much more than just sending out invoices for services rendered. They actually look at the whole bill submitted by the doctor and will send in all the forms necessary. Next, they will look at each patient’s insurance to see what will be covered by insurance and what needs to be covered by the patient. Then the medical billing companies will make sure the insurance companies will reimburse the doctors for services rendered. .

Doctors, clinics and hospitals who outsource their medical billing services save time and money. The time they save their staff can be used in managing the facility and business, fund raising and keeping better patient records. But, the best advantage is the collection of more and bigger fees for the medical facilities and doctors. More money collected helps everyone stay in the black and continue to serve the community. More fees, collected faster, keeps the cost of seeing a doctor and getting medical treatment down. More people can seek medical treatment when the price stays down.
