Buying Popcorn for the Movies

Gepost in: Eating Fun, Great Nutrition Tips, Miscellany — @ 7:58 am

Imagine, for a moment, what 1.000.000.000 pounds of unprepared popcorn kernels must look like — and when you take into account that that’s just one year’s domestic non-wholesale sales alone, suddenly it becomes evident precisely how many of your personal friends enjoy the snack. As a result, upwards of 1.000.000 pounds come from the Popcorn Factory, ready prepared as popcorn favors, tins of popcorn, popcorn balls and gourmet popcorn, annually. And in case you were wondering, it’s kosher certified. Available in all your favorite flavors and a variety of presentations, the Factory stand ready to provide excellent quality popcorn. Just as they have ever since 1979. Preparations start with domestic grain chosen carefully to produce the optimum level of taste. If you use the finest corn oil, you can maintain that flavor as the kernels pop, allowing other flavorings to be added. The resulting popcorn is packaged in eye pleasing formats and sent out while it’s still fresh. Their tins go further than most, sized for two and a half and six gallons and filled to the top. There’s enough in one of these to last one person or a small family for a number of movies or supply a group of employees at a company. Plain, naturally, and buttered — but you can also find them on offer in white chocolate raspberry or banana cream pie.

Make sure to go to our marvelous site for popcorn favors advice…

On the other hand if that’s not what you want, they also offer different options; among them the delightful smaller tins and boxes. They are sent out ornamented to feature your preferred theme such as “congratulations”, a favorite sports team, birthdays, Hanukkah, et al. Not enough? Well, you could go further, having a hilarious image, a special note, or the recipient’s name added. Some customers are sure of a preferred flavor and consequently purchase a single large box. As an alternative, assortments and samplers provide a smaller amount of several flavors so the recipient can try them all. And if you need larger helpings, while keeping that variety of flavors, you might put a tower together. Though some towers are predesigned, you can also specify the contents of each box in a given stack. Popcorn in virtually any flavor your heart desires can be purchased from the Popcorn Factory. Owing to their decoration, too, they make superb gifts. Why not spread a little happiness? We highly recommend it.

Hampers for Chocolate Lovers from Fannie May

Gepost in: Great Nutrition Tips — @ 10:12 pm

Besides the fact that Fannie May is a household name in recent years, the company started out small. It all began in Chicago in the early 1920s. Since then this innovative company has grown from one shop to a thriving network furnishing the country with delightful candies. Fannie May’s ability to combine cocoa, sugar and other ingredients in the perfect way made them such a favorite that they expanded to about 48 shops in only 15 years. As an interesting aside the chocolatiers were so dedicated to the quality of its products they decided to shut stores rather than change their formulas during wartime rationing. Some of these traditional recipes are actually still being made use of and savored today.

Naturally the chocolates are attractively packaged. Remember to order a gorgeous presentation box if the chocolates are for someone special, it will add a special touch. You could send a single box or tin for anniversaries and other special occasions, or ask for an entire tower of delicacies for friends, loved ones or business associates. You can select a carefully chosen assortment online or you can personalize the order with particular sorts to ensure everybody gets plenty of the ones they like best. What is even more convenient, Fannie May is proud to have a dependable network of branches across the nation and worldwide. If you are preparing for a special occasion like a marriage, small table gifts and wedding favors are available too. Pick up the phone or send them an e-mail for a quote. Delicious Presents: the Popcorn Factory

Gepost in: Great Nutrition Tips, Miscellany — @ 1:03 pm

You have only to look at hard numbers to know how popcorn stands in the nation’s tastes. A staggering one billion pounds of unprepared kernels passed across the tills of U.S. vendors in 2000 alone. As a result, upwards of a million pounds are produced by the Popcorn Factory, ready prepared as popcorn favors, tins of popcorn, gourmet popcorn and popcorn balls, yearly. It’s even certified kosher. With three decades of experience, you can confidently buy from them, no matter what variety you happen to crave. Preparations commence with domestic grain chosen to guarantee the best possible flavor. When you use corn oil, you can preserve that flavor while you pop the kernels, permitting other flavorings to be added. It’s then packed up and sent out without delay — to make sure it stays fresh. Why not try a six gallon tin, full of popcorn? The Factory are ready for you. So if you’ve a business event that wants snacks laying on — or just want to stock up enough to last through movie night for a few weeks — you know what you’re looking for. They’re available in natural and buttered not to mention numerous other flavors including white chocolate raspberry. However if these are too big, they do offer different options; notably the beautiful gift boxes. They are sent out decorated to feature the theme you chose like “thank you”, Hanukkah, a favorite sports team, “congratulations”, and so on. What if none of those work for you? You might give some thought to having the package personalized with an amusing image, witty missive, or just your name.

A great many popcorn lovers just want one variety and choose one large order. On the other hand, assortment packages and samplers contain lesser amounts of multiple flavors so people have a chance to experiment with them all. And if you need to buy more than just a small measure of several flavors, the best option is a tower. Although some towers are predesigned, one can also specify the contents of each box in a custom tower. They offer a variety of different snack foods in practically any flavor you’re likely to want. Their appropriate and pretty containers are sure to brighten anyone’s day. Can you think of someone who’d like a six gallon tin? We highly recommend it.

Simple Remedies for Holiday Indigestion and Bloating

Gepost in: Beauty Tips, Great Nutrition Tips, Health + More — @ 5:05 pm

Every holiday season, we all have a inclination to endure the Christmas and New Year indulgences: the sinful eating, imbibing and sleep privation brought on by all those holiday celebrations. While the fun may be stupendous, it also induces indigestion, gas, bloating, headaches and puffy eyes.

Here are a few tips for undoing your holiday indulgences:

Salty food choices cause fluid retention and swelling; those created with refined sugar induce spikes in blood sugar and, hence, cravings. Alcohol and caffeine cause dehydration. Alcohol acutally dehydrates the blood. In order for the body’s regenerative system to work, toxins must be flushed out. The natural recommendation of eight glasses of water per day is not enough to detox. In order to detox your system while likewise replenishing substantial vitamins and minerals, we advise that you include, for at least four days, unsweetened fruit juices in the morning and vegetable juices in the afternoon in addition to your normal diet.

During the first two days after your indulgences, ahead you eat or drink anything else, make 1 cup hot water combined with the juice of one-half lemon, 1/16 teaspoon cayenne pepper and one tablespoonful maple syrup. Lemons are packed with bioflavonoids, which act as excellent detoxifying catalysts. Cayenne pepper is an anti-inflammatory. Maple syrup gives sweetness.

About one-half an hour after drinking the hot water and lemon drink, blend up a breakfast smoothie of fruit and ground flax seeds. Good options are apples, peaches, berries, pineapple, kiwi, pears and oranges. Add a tablespoon of ground seeds and half a teaspoon of fresh ginger. Do not add protein powder or yogurt in your smoothie.

Prepare a very simple breakfast only if you feel hungry. Superb choices are yogurt, a protein powder shake, eggs, or oatmeal. For lunch have a low-fat meat like fish or chicken and a big salad with a simple dressing made with olive oil and lemon.

Later in the afternoon try vegetable juices made with carrots, beets, cucumber, celery, parsley and spinach. If it’s an option, wheat grass juice is a wonderful nourisher and detoxifier. For dinner, cook up a cleansing soup with a conservative amount of meat or tofu, and noodles or rice. Make the soup broth from real vegetables, not from a mix or can.

Here are additional resources about how to cure bloating.

Folic Acid: A must for Women

Gepost in: Great Nutrition Tips — @ 11:38 am

Folic Acid, a much neglected vitamin in most women’s diet, is a naturally occurring vitamin B (also called vitamin B9) that helps a baby’s neural tube, the part of a developing baby that becomes the brain and spinal cord, develop properly. Neural tube defects are defects of the spinal cord and brain. If normal development does not occur, spina bifida and other anomalies can occur. Several studies suggest that women who do not consume enough of the B vitamin folic acid before and during the early weeks of pregnancy are also at increased risk of having a baby with a heart defect.

Your body also needs this nutrient for the production, repair and functioning of the DNA, our genetic map and a basic building block of cells. So getting enough folate is particularly important for the rapid cell growth that occurs during pregnancy. Folate is also required for a complex metabolic process that involves the conversion of one amino acid in your blood (homocysteine) into another amino acid (methionine). If you don’t get enough folate, you can end up with excessive amounts of homocysteine in your blood, which is though to contribute to some birth defects. Finally, folate helps make normal red blood cells, prevents anemia, and produces nervous system chemicals.

The signs of folic acid deficiency are very subtle. You may experience diarrhea, loss of appetite and weight loss as well as weakness, a sore tongue, headaches, heart palpitations and irritability. If you are only mildly deficient, you may not experience these symptoms, but you still won’t be getting the requisite amount needed for your baby’s development. Thus the importance of folic acid for a childbearing woman can’t be stressed enough.

Natural sources of folic acid are broccoli, legumes, asparagus, spinach, peanuts, orange juice, papayas, and romaine lettuce, among others. Folic acid is also found in most multivitamin supplements and as well as a folic acid only supplement. If you, like most people, don’t get the amount of folic acid you need from your diet, you definitely should consider taking a supplement. Research shows that the body actually absorbs the synthetic version of this vitamin (found in supplements and enriched foods) much better that the version that occurs naturally in certain foods.

Vegetables: Key to Fitness and Weight Control

Gepost in: Great Nutrition Tips — @ 6:02 am

I was a young child during World War II. To make up for food shortages the government asked citizens to plant Victory Gardens. Like other families on our block, we had a garden in a vacant field. Weeding our Victory Garden was more than a war time activity, it was a social activity.

Families caught up on news as they planted and harvested their crops. Picking vegetables – fat orange carrots, turgid Swiss chard, and giant potatoes – seemed miraculous to me. One day some older kids built a fire on a bare plot and we roasted potatoes. We ate the blackened potatoes without any butter or salt, and I can still remember how good they tasted.

Vegetables fed the nation during World War II. We were a fit nation then because people walked to conserve gas, ate little protein (steak was a rarity), and were restricted by food stamps. No obese people lived on my block. In fact, I didn’t know any obese people. How things have changed.

America is no longer a fit nation, it is a fat nation, and the obesity statistics are alarming. According to the President’s Council on Fitness and Sports 37% of Americans aren’t physically active. More than 108 million Americans are either obese or overweight. Teens and younger kids are developing type 2 diabetes, formerly an adult disease.

What can Americans do? We can eat more vegetables. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has posted an article on www.MyPyramid.com titled “Why is it Important to Eat Vegetables?” The reasons include reducing the risks of type 2 diabetes, stroke, mouth, stomach, and colon-rectum cancer, and heart disease. In other words, eating vegetables is a way to protect your health.

Mayo Clinic has posted an article about the energy density of vegetables on its website. The article, “Energy Density and Weight Loss: Feel Full on Fewer Calories,” tells how energy density works. Many vegetables have low energy density, Mayo says, and you can eat large servings of them, feel full quickly, and because you feel full, consume fewer calories.

Green vegetables are a good example. One serving of green beans, asparagus, or broccoli contains about 25 calories, according to Mayo Clinic. This number refers to plain vegetables, not vegetables drenched in butter or smothered in cheese sauce. Lightly dressed salads also have low energy density.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says most of the space on your dinner plate should be filled with vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Eating lots of vegetables can help you reach and maintain a healthy weight, according to the CDC. To learn more log onto the CDC Homepage and print out “How to Use Fruits and Vegetables to Help Manage Your Weight.”

Vegetables and daily walking have helped me to keep a healthy weight. I love vegetables, probably because of my childhood Victory Garden experience. But many Americans grimace when they think about fixing vegetables or eating them. Why? It takes time to wash and slice vegetables and Americans are short of time.

Many of us don’t know how to cook vegetables. A serving of limp, gray-green beans is hardly appealing. Carrots cooked until they are mush are a turn-off. How can we get Americans to eat more vegetables? We can explain cooking techniques.

Steamed vegetables, for example, retain their color and crispness. The same is true of stir fried vegetables. I stir fry vegetables in a cast iron skillet. The skillet is so well seasoned that I need only a tablespoon (or less) of olive oil.

Americans also need to learn how to season vegetables. Though I rarely cook with salt, sometimes I sprinkle light salt on vegetables. Most of the time I season vegetables with lemon pepper or fresh lemon juice. I also season them with fresh thyme, rosemary, basil, and garlic.

Involving kids in meal preparation is another way to get Americans to eat vegetables. Older kids can cut the tips off of string beans, peel and slice carrots, or slice mushrooms. Younger kids can get pans out of the cupboard, measure ingredients, and set the table.

Trying new vegetables, such as jicima, may also help Americans to eat more of them. Fresh vegetables add sparkle to any meal. We don’t have Victory Gardens any more, but we can eat vegetables to prevent disease and maintain a healthy weight. Put vegetables at the top of your grocery list today!

Calcium

Gepost in: Great Nutrition Tips — @ 8:47 am

The need for calcium in our daily diet can never be overstated. Not only does it give us energy with all that it does for our bones and teeth, it is also an essential nutrient for our body’s routine activities, keeps the heart beating at a steady pace, and the nerves, muscles and blood in good working order.

Calcium in the body in required amounts is the key to its efficient functioning. According to the USDA, the daily intake of women aged 20-29 years is 778 mg per day; while that of women aged 30-50 years is 719 mg. However, men in the age group of 20-29 years need 1075 mg per day.

If we do not get these required amounts of calcium from low-fat dairy products, milk and broccoli, the body will ’steal’ as much calcium as it needs from your bones for its specific functions. Over time, this only reduces your bone strength and causes osteoporosis, a disease of fragile and brittle bones.

This is why we must eat a large variety of nutritious foods, and balance it with plenty of physical activity to maintain our weight or decrease our obesity. To get the best out of your food, choose a diet that is high in grain products, vegetables, fruits, and food low in fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol but moderate in sugars, salt and sodium.

Calcium-rich food can be found naturally in dairy products, apart from certain other foods too. By incorporating calcium in your daily diet, it will help build bones and teeth and maintain bone strength, while also helping in muscular contraction, blood clotting, and maintaining cell membranes. The amounts of calcium our bodies absorb depend upon our body’s needs for calcium. While Vitamin D accelerates calcium absorption, calcium absorption tends to decrease with age.

Calcium provides detailed information on Calcium, Calcium Supplements, Calcium Deficiency, Calcium Sources and more. Calcium is affiliated with Magnesium Chloride.

Can CO-Q-12 Be Used To Lower Blood Pressure?

Gepost in: Great Nutrition Tips — @ 2:07 am

You may be able to lower your elevated blood
pressure naturally, living without statin drugs
and their risks and discomforts.

Statin drugs decrease CO-Q-10 production in your
body. And CO-Q-10 is needed for every cell in the
body in its mitochondria, including the heart.

A healthy heart needs more, not less, CO-Q-10, a
very good reason not to use statins, if possible.

Serious fatigue and muscle pain can result from statin
use.

What’s the alternative to statins?

There’s a natural tool box of blood pressure lowering
approaches available. Steven Sinatra, M.D. and Gary
Null, Ph.D have strong credibility and very specific
advice in this area.

I’ll combine my own successful hypertension lowering experiences, too, integrating them into Sinatra and
Null’s sage advice.

As I gained weight 15 years ago, becoming an
unpleasingly plump 262 pounds, my blood pressure
soared to the 180 over 95.

I rejected statin prescriptions, fired my
pill-pushing doctor, joined a Gold’s Gym,
and exercised down to under 200 lbs within two
years.

My blood pressure returned to normal. So, I know
that in many cases, including mine, natural means
can defeat or lessen hypertension.

The best tool in the tool box is Co-Q-10. If you have
high blood pressure, then a daily dosage of 300 mg
–equally divided and taken with meals-is a good dosage.

If you have no hypertensive problems, a Co-Q-10 dosage
of 30 to 60 mg is OK.

I take 300 mg daily, since I’ve had problems with
elevated blood pressure, and I want to keep this
under tight control. My blood pressure averages
128/76.

You must take Co-Q-10 for 12 full weeks before
attaining the desired benefit–then keep taking it.

Doctor Sinatra also recommends D-Ribose along with
Co-Q-10. D-Ribose energizes your cells naturally–it’s
not a stimulant. A daily amount of three 2,000
mg dosages is good, particularly before or after
exercise. I take this, too.

Recent research has found that much larger doses of
Co-Q-10 (1,200 mg) can delay the progression of
Parkinson’s Disease by up to 44%.

And the October 2005 edition of “LifeExtension,”
the magazine published by the Life Extension
Foundation, shows in a small study that Co-Q-10
may also program cancer cells to self-destruct,
making Co-Q-10 an invaluable adjuvant therapy for
cancer patients.

Other very useful anti-hypertension tools are Vitamin
C (3,000 to 6,000 mg daily), Omega 3 fish oils
(3,000 mg daily), L-Carnitine (1,000 mg daily), and
Hawthorne Berry extract (250 mg three times daily).

If you have high LDL cholesterol, too, try these to
lower it naturally: policosanol (20 mg daily divided
in two doses), niacin (flush or non-flush, starting with
500 to 1,000 mg daily dosage), and nattokinase
(take as directed on the container you buy).

Niacin reduces cholesterol production, which is made
in the liver. When you visit your doctor, he or she
should do a “liver panel” as part of your overall blood testing. In a few cases, niacin can cause abnormalities
in liver function.

Nattokinase, fermented from soy beans, naturally helps to prevent blood thickening and clotting, allowing for the
possibility of lower blood pressure. This was discovered in Japan, and “natto,” as it’s called, is availabe in the United States.

So, take action on this. If you take statins now, you
may be able to reduce the dosage or get off of them
completely by taking this advice and getting your doctor’s
cooperation.

Your doctor can help wean you from these drugs in
an orderly way. If he or she refuses, work with a
doctor that will help you in this manner.

Protect Yourself for the Upcoming Cold & Flu Season

Gepost in: Great Nutrition Tips — @ 1:34 pm

There is no quick fix for the flu pandemic

If vaccines and drugs are available too late to stop bird flu, then what can be done to battle H5N1 avian influenza if it spreads to people? Not a lot, experts say. If a pandemic emerges in the coming year, there will not be enough supplies of drugs or vaccines to stop it and basic medical equipment that could slow its spread is also lacking.

Ladies and Gentlemen it is time that you take health care into your own hands. With headlines like you just read, you can see that you and your loved ones are facing one of the greatest challenge that pose a threat to mankind. You cannot rely on our current health care system or your government alone to protect you.

You have been reading about the Spanish Flu, SARS, and Bird Flu for several years now, and, frankly, at this time you should be real concerned. The threat is real, and it is darn right scary if you look at all the information surrounding this alarming problem.

You need to understand what you can do to protect yourself and your family from viruses such as the bird flu, the Spanish flu, SARS and many other flu strains. I don’t know about you, but I am not one to take a chance and think that I will be one of the few lucky ones to obtain the vaccine for this epidemic called the bird flu plague that is being predicted!

Your best defense is the human immune system. More specifically your immune system.

The human immune system is a truly amazing constellation of responses to attacks from outside the body. It has many facets, a number of which can change to optimize the response to these unwanted intrusions. The system is remarkably effective, most of the time.

The key statement is most of the time. You need to understand exactly what you need to do to support your body so that your immune system is as strong as it can possibly be all of the time not most of the time.

When functioning properly, your immune system fights disease-producing organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. A strong immune system provides you with powerful natural defenses against disease. Conversely, with a weakened immune system you are more vulnerable or more susceptible to colds, flu, and more serious illnesses.

Pollution, drug overload and nutrient-poor diets compromise our immune health. Drugs aren’t the answer for immune enhancement. The immune system is not responsive to drugs for healing. Antibiotics used to fight infections actually depress the immune system when used long-term.

The world is filled with disease-causing organisms; and your body is filled with natural defenses to resist them. The key to self-healing is a strong defense system, which protects you from everything from the flu germs to cancer cells.

All disease and illness in their various manifestations are a result of the failure of the immune system.

Antibiotics fight infection, but they don’t affect whatever factors caused a weakened the immune system. We are designed to eat natural foods such as fruit, vegetables, seeds, nuts, pure clean water, plant roots, meats that have no antibiotics or growth hormones.

Over the past several years we have been exposed to commercially prepared foods, synthetic foods, foods overloaded with sugar as well as the chemicals these foods contain – chemicals that our bodies simply aren’t meant to handle. Today we have more stress in our lives caused by a multitude of factors that is compromising your body’s immune system responses.

Our current supply of foods are missing key nutrients that our bodies must have in order to build a strong healthy immune system. “The alarming fact is that foods (fruits, vegetables, and grains) now being raised on millions of acres of land that no longer contain enough of certain minerals are starving us – no matter how much of them we eat. No man today can eat enough fruits and vegetables to supply his (or her) system with the minerals he requires for perfect health because his stomach isn’t big enough to hold them … The truth is that our foods vary enormously in value, and some them aren’t worth eating as food … Our physical well-being is more directly dependent upon the minerals we take into our systems than on calories or vitamins or upon the precise proportions of starch, protein or carbohydrates we consume.” The preceding quote is from Senate Document 264, dated 1936

Recent studies suggest that vitamins and minerals delivered to the human body by fruits and vegetables may have declined as much as thirty to forty-percent since 1960.

So what happens when your immune system response is not functioning the way it was designed?

The answer is it will not protect you the way it was meant to!

If you are exposed to a flu like the Spanish Flu, SARS, or the Bird Flu and your immune system is dysfunctional you are more likely then not to contract that flu virus that you were exposed to.

The particular influenza strain that the World Health Organization fears may break out as the next pandemic at any time is called H5N1 bird flu virus. If this occurs as they fear the numbers of people affected would be in the tens of millions.

We have seen it before, where there is a shortage of a specific vaccine. If they do not have a vaccine readily available the result will be disastrous. Just imagine if this occurs, imagine this killer flu spreading around the world instantaneously through person to person in various public places, on airplanes and from city to city. Medical facilities would be overwhelmed.

How can you protect yourself from the bird flu pandemic?

By building a strong immune system. It is like a shield of armor, defending your body and protecting it from harm. That may be easy to say but extremely difficult to do. Your immune system is a network of cells, tissues and organs that work together to defend your body against attacks by” foreign” invaders.

Good nutrition is essential to developing and keeping your immune system healthy and strong. Nutritional deficiencies may be responsible for chronic immune problems as it is easier for bacteria or viruses to take hold when important nutrients are missing.

Therefore the most important nutrients are the ones that are missing in your diet!

More than 75,000 chemicals are permeating our environment. Chemical exposures can damage the immune system, decreasing the ability to fight off common infections, viruses such as the bird flu and other serious diseases such as cancer.

Things you can do to strengthen your immune system;
A well balanced nutritious diet, specific food supplements, good clean purified water, a healthy mental attitude and emotional well-being, a nontoxic environment, avoiding unnecessary antibiotics and vaccines, low stress, and plenty of rest and exercise.

A strong Immune System will help you to fight off all manner of diseases, colds and flu’s. Learn how to support your body’s natural ability to balance your immune system and restore cellular wellness.

Recent science has determined the significance of a function in the human body called cellular communication. Your cells communicate information through a series of glycoproteins that cover every single cell in your body.

The significance of this discovery called glycobiology is literally how your body’s immune system functions. In other words it is the operating system of the human body.

The immune system is an extraordinarily complex system that relies on an elaborate and dynamic communications network that exists among the many different kinds of immune system cells that patrol your body though the cell surface structures called glycoproteins.

True health cannot be achieved unless your immune system is operating as nature intended. The human immune system needs specific powerful nutrients that supply your body what it needs to exhibit active defenses against infectious diseases such as the bird flu.

You have to understand that the function of cellular communication can not occur properly unless you have an ample supply of nutrients called glyconutrients so that you body can balance your immune system and restore the proper cellular communication function. Just like the other essential nutrients, glyconutrients are not readily available in your current food supply in the amounts that you require to function at an optimal level.

Discover the nutritional application called glyconutrients that supplies nutrients so your body can support the structure that facilitates cellular communication which in turn supports a strong vibrant immune system. There is nothing more important then strengthening your immune system

Kerry Greening is a health and wellness consultant helping you address the underlying causes of disease so you can restore and have dynamic vibrant health.
